Adam dietz : windows 8 was far from ready to be released, it is full of glitches and errors. laptop always boots up to limited connectivity for the internet. i have to forget the network and reconnect a few times before it will let me browse. so including all that its about a 10 minute boot time every time. with no help from samsung support they are clueless, i have 3 laptops a tv ps3 and 2 smart phones that have no problems ever connecting.
TheGarbageEater : During the periods of time when it is not behaving this way however i am pleased with the laptop (although keep in mind ive only had it for a few hours now). The keyboard is surprisingly very comfortable, the touchscreen works well, and the overall mechanical build is of high quality. The screen has almost no wobble but has some reflection to it like any device. The 1080p graphics on it are a surprising huge step up from the 720p of my 4 year old laptop too.
Joe Hi-O (Ohio, USA) : I love Samsung products, I own a Galaxy Note 2 cell phone, I have a Samsung Google Chromebook, a Samsung HD Television, and now this laptop. I'm hoping I can have it replaced with a model that has a fixed WiFi card and preferably without the dead pixel. I'm going to give it a day or so and see if the WiFi issue gets resolved, but if it doesn't I will most definitely be returning the laptop and hopefully having it replaced with a fully working model.

Francie Wright (Dover, Ohio USA) : This computer makes me happy everyday. I bought it as a transition between home and work and I have to say it does all I could possibly want. Windows 8 is easier every day. This is an easy computer to carry places with the right case, not heavy and not big. It has worked with all programs old and new that I have thrown at it. So glad I made the decision to buy this over all of the others I was looking at. I was a huge HP fan and still am but Samsung is really nice to work with.
calc "calc" (Chappaqua, NY USA) : I immediately went to Samsung online customer service. I went to customer service chat and was told to not return the computer but go to the service site that I was directed to. After spending way too much time inputting information about the product, myself, my purchase and the problem I was experiencing, I was asked for more information or I would be charged $55.00. I provided the information and was told to take the computer to the nearest service center. The nearest service center is in Fort Worth, Texas and I live in the Seattle, WA area.
VoiceofReason (Washington State) : This thing is slow, slow and slow. Did I mention it is slow? I knew it came with a 5400 rpm drive, but I bought a SSD to install in its place. But once I get the laptop I find out that the hard drive is not user replaceable. The only thing a user can do is add another stick of RAM. Since there is already 8GB onboard more RAM is not going to improve the slowness of the miserable hard drive. WEI of the hard drive in my current Sony laptop with a SSG is 7.9, the Samsung's hard drive is 5.9. What a joke for a $1,100 laptop. Guess I am eating 15% and returning this dog.

Adelin Gasana : Love this new laptop. Affordable and durable compared to Apple Mac products and top-of-the-line brand that competes with any laptop right now on the market. Great battery power and life too. The audio is solid and the screen resolution is up-to-par. The only real challenge is getting on board with Microsoft Windows 8...which like all new operating system entirely on a different approach (this one--touchscreen) it will take some time to get used to!
vvort : I followed the advice of others and switched the hard drive with an ssd. I only had the computer for 2 days when I did it. I was very nervous about messing with a new computer. The hardest thing in the whole process was getting the back off the computer. It wanted to stick near where the hinges are. After about 10 minutes of gentle prying it snapped and I thought I had broken it but I hadn't. Since I installed the ssd everything is extremely fast. I really like everything about the computer except for the USB 3 ports have a hard time recognizing things. The first day I was having problems with all the USB ports and I ended up calling the tech support. They were not very helpful. I was pretty sure that there was just something wrong with the drivers, but the tech support guy thought I should reformat the computer. I was not willing to do that at the time so I ended up working it out on my own. So, I hope I don't have to use the tech support again.
Jason R : Computer is great. (adding an SSD is essential and may be difficult for some). Windows 8 is Meh.... Battery is as expected and sufficient for me... Lots of finger prints on the chassis. Touchpad works well. Touchscreen is beautiful. Keyboard types very well and has very usable 10-key for those who care. Wanted the Ativ Book 8 with the 8870 video card and larger battery, but I was not willing to wait any longer for Samsung to offer it in the US.

Robert J. Wayner : I tried several laptops (Acer, Dell, Lenovo) before I ended up buying this one. I wanted touch screen, quad core processor, a good dedicated graphics card, SSD, and relatively lighter weight than my 2 year old HP. The Book 6 came the closest to providing most of what I wanted. My only wish was for a SSD but I can live without it for now. Best Buy offered to install one but I hate to give up the capacity of the 1T hard drive. Samsung makes good products including their Pro series 840 SSD so I may opt for it later on when prices drop I hope. Getting use to Windows 8 was a struggle but Start8 helped a whole lot. I really like this laptop. Even the internal JBL speakers sound good although I use Bose Soundlink. The keyboard is easy to see and the screen is bright providing lots of contrast. I tried a few tablets too but wasn't happy with either the small screens or their lack of horsepower. It doesn't have an optical drive but that's not a deal breaker for me since I DL most of my programs and it would have added extra weight but you can always purchase an external burner. I'm also very happy with Amazon since they delivered the laptop (well packaged) next day in the afternoon. They are amazing offering great prices and I will order from them again without hesitation. Amazon is a company you can rely on for excellent service and prices !!
Joseph S. Borrow : Flawless shipping, flawless set-up...far too much Samsung bloatware. Am using a SSD on my desktop, and found this painfully slow. Considered opening and changing out the 5400 RPM drive, but decided to opt for a laptop with a built in SSD. For this reason only, returned the laptop.
Edward : nice computer windows 8 is just so different all the swipe options are hard to get accustomed to so I use the win 7 emulator works better for me. My only real criticism is the touch pad it does not have the left and right click pads i have been using for years instead
you have to click in the bottom left or right corners of the huge touch pad takes some used to. I alwas seem to miss.
Computer is light weight super clear crisp screen nice update features from samsung and syncs up easily with my Note 3 phone and connects easily will all my other Samsung devices. Overall I am very pleased.

Clayton Chroust "Electronics Junkie" (Agoura Hills, CA USA) : I have had this laptop for about a week and it is everything I wanted in a laptop. I was amazed at how light this laptop is, it is less than an Alienware 14 btw. Performance wise this laptop is right on par. I was looking to get rid of my bulky gaming tower that I hardly use anymore, but I still wanted the ability to play a game or 2 when I want, and boy did this laptop deliver.
ryan sherbun : I am fairly tech savvy and i fall in the group of bigger is better. i was contiplateing between this laptop and an ultrabook. I didn't buy it for its size or the size of the hard drive (but it is nice). i picked this one because of the keyboard and its number pad and i am glad i did. Doing real work on the computer, having the number pad attached is nice. It has a great keyboard, its sleek and feels solid just like the unit. It has a awesome screen, its beautifully clear and sharp. My frustrating complaint is, its side/sync and home network are terriblely difficult to get each devise to see each other and transfer files. Side sync works once it finds your phone. i love samsung products but they put a lot of bloat ware in. i recommend removing it first thing. Many people complained about how slow it was, and it was when i first got it but after i installed all the updates its quick enough. Now its not SSD fast but if you want that you can change the HD for a SSD yourself. Basicly i give it a thumbs up
Paul Alexander : Bought this for my daughter heading off to college. Came in good condition and was easy to start using right out of the box. We had read the other reviews concerning the WI-FI driver and noted the same problem as well. She was able to follow the instructions from the other reviews to change the driver and now has no issues. I would have given 5 stars except for that issue.

It : Like other reviewers, I have experienced WiFi drops, but not as frequently. I have also noticed the fan kicks on at a high rpm and makes considerable noise and the machine gets pretty hot.
My main issue with the product is that Catalyst Command Center does not work properly with OpenGL out of the box. I ran the RealTech VR Extensions Viewer test with the ATIV and my desktop and found that my new laptop supports less than half the features even though it has a newer and supposedly more advanced graphics card. The end result is that it runs at less than half the frame rate of my desktop.
Birdee (BOUNTIFUL, UTAH, US) : It doesn't have a optical drive (no CD/DVD port). I'm new to this so I cant judge if that's good or bad. It feels a bit frustrating for the money, but I'm sure its for the best and I'll get used to the new technology (soon as I find out what that is). I do have an external optical drive from when the one on my last laptop died, so I can still install my Lightroom and Photoshop (which Adobe doesn't sell my versions anymore so I need the disc to download) and other programs I have purchased in the past, (I am curious what people are doing do download their products, if you want, please share)

James Saunders "Crimson Seoul" (Birmingham, AL USA) : Just got this laptop in the mail today. Been playing with it for about 3 hours. I love this laptop! I haven't experienced the same issues as the first reviewer. No heat issues, little to no fan noise and wifi connects no problem. Browser speed is faster than my new workstation I use for work. I'm really impressed. The keys are really comfortable and quiet. It has a number pad which is nice. It's so sleek and pretty. It's just a beautiful and it feels sturdy. The screen is really crisp and very responsive to touch. Overall after a few hours of playing with this beauty, I absolutely recommend this laptop.
Brandon "ba116" (Cambridge, MA USA) : I was shocked at how slow the computer was for the first week that i used it. Programs would constantly hang as the computer tried to catch up. Startup (including automatically starting Outlook) took over 90 seconds. Opening a metro app (like mail or weather) took about 7 seconds. That is not what i was expecting w/ a quad core i7 and 8 GB of memory. The hard drive was obviously the culprit so i replaced it w/ a Crucial SSD (256GB). It's night and day. It feels zippy, programs ope quickly, full startup is about 25 seconds.
Cedar : Followed the directions posted here for installing the Samsung 840 Pro series 256GB SSD and this thing works great. Boots to log in about 15 seconds (I've already loaded a bunch of software that slows it down too, before the added software it booted in about 7 seconds). Super slim, had to bite the bullet on Windows 8 and have had a few problems with USB 3.0 hubs crashing the OS but overall I'm very happy with this system. It replaced a 2 year old Asus G75 17" notebook, but is way faster and many pounds lighter. I use this as my main desktop/development system, choosing to carry a 2TB USB 3.0 WD passport external drive to lug all the archive junk, old docs, music and photo collections, etc.

Brent : I must say, this laptop was a great purchase and I have zero regrets. Its a touch on the heavy side for a laptop this size, but the trade off is an easy one; its feels incredibly sturdy. There are couple of issues that are definitely not make or break, but are quality of life wishes and things to maybe consider:
- Windows 8, while not as awful as it is made out to be, is pretty bad. The curve is somewhat steep moving from Windows 7, but not insurmountable. Red a guide before the purchase and pick one up frequently as you use this machine. It helps.
- The WiFi does drop out when you close the lid and open it up. a quick toggle of the airplane switch turns it back on. This can likely be controlled via some of the device/power options, it its so incredibly minor, I haven't even poked around.
- The Catalyst control panel is a bit confusing, but once its sorted an properly set up, the switching between graphics cards is seamless and the Radeon sings and the heat output is not that much greater.
- The speakers are on the bottom of the laptop. Odd choice, I thought, but I usually (if not always) have headphones on.
- The bloatwaree is fairly easy to remove.
J. Shain (CA) : The weakest link is the hard drive, but for the price it's a pretty powerful laptop. To get a laptop at this price with an SSD, you would be sacrificing processor, graphics, quality, and/or etc. I can live with the hard drive, seeing how its one of the only things that can be changed for a noticeable improvement in performance without having to replaced the laptop itself. I much rather have a better spec laptop and just replace the hard drive down the road with a more affordable SSD then having to replace a lower spec laptop because it's just not cutting it anymore. Even with the limitations of the hard drive and some optimization, boot up time is about 45 seconds give or take and opening up programs like Photoshop takes less than 15 seconds. However, if you use sleep mode often and reopen a program you previously exited out of then it only takes a few seconds to do. I currently favor capacity and getting an SSD that meets my needs is cost prohibitive.
Gunder : Just received my laptop and am really impressed. Though much heavier than my wife's series 9, this laptop is very sleek and well built. I did have the same wifi issues as the others. After trying many suggested fixes I was finally able to resolve the issue by rolling back the driver to the Microsoft version. Three days later and not a single dropped connection.

c1oudrs : k--all the reviews about this laptop are true. It's great for the money.
However, there are some design considerations to keep in mind. 1rst--the battery is buried in the unit. So you won't be able to swap out the battery (or take the battery out). 2nd--unlike some other laptops (ASUS comes to mind)...this Samsung laptop comes out of sleep & hibernation via the power button... hitting any key won't do it; you HAVE to use the power button. 3rd--if you hold down the power button for 5-20 seconds, it doesn't necessarily reboot.
TheGarbageEater : This combination opens the door to a catastrophic failure. If you get stuck in sleep mode...how will you reboot the computer into post? That's what happened to me after the first morning with this laptop. If holding down the power button doesn't work to reboot out of sleep mode, then SOP is to take out the battery--except you can't with this unit. Engineering woopsie. There is a little pin hole in the back that is supposed to disengage the battery but my suspicion is that it doesn't fully do so. Likewise it might be pretty hard to total drain the battery. So your stuck in sleep mode.
Joe Hi-O (Ohio, USA) : I love everything about this laptop. The display is gorgeous Full HD. The JBL speakers are fantastic. The touchscreen is very responsive as well. I do have a couple issues with this Laptop though. It came with a dead pixel to the left center of the screen, it's only really noticeable when watching darker videos or darker backgrounds. But during those particular times, it can be quite annoying. On top of that, I'm having the same WiFi issues as the other two reviewers are having so far. If I am just sitting in a webpage typing and the laptop isn't attempting to connect it's fine and seems to be working great. But if I go to youtube or another website to watch an HD video, sometimes even just a basic webpage, the WiFi will start doing the same thing as the other reviewers. As expensive as this laptop is, I'd expect the Wifi to work properly.

Samsung Series 3 NP355V5C-A04US Voucher
dissed : this computer screams...no junk..nothing! i took things a step further (i guess i was bored) the other week and completely formatted the laptop with a fresh copy of windows 8 via usb.
this gets really kinda techie so if your not up to the task just skim over this part of the review.
from Microsoft's terms of service. "May I make a backup copy? Yes, you may make a single copy of the software for backup purposes.."
c1oudrs : Ok--all the reviews about this laptop are true.
TheGarbageEater : Received this laptop today and almost immediately noticed it had a fan and heating issue. Alot of heat keeps being produced at minimal cpu usage (only surfing the internet) so the fan, located right underneath the screen by the hinge, keeps kicking into an abnormally high rpm to cool down the system. The system continually becomes very hot and the top of the keyboard, possibly thanks to the fan location, becomes hot to the touch as well. This includes the 3 or 4 top rows of keys, making it extremely uncomfortable to use for even brief typing periods. Also putting the computer into the lower performance mode with the F11 Fn doesnt do much to fix this heating issue.

Melody Collins : I received my laptop promptly and am in love with it so far. The only thing I have to complain about is getting used to Windows 8! LOL but the laptop hasn't given my any problems so far. It isn't too heavy to carry. The sound is clear, and the display is bright and clear. I am in love with it at this point...ask me again in 6 months or a year. :)
ALEEGO : I got this from Amazon Warehouse Deals, and this was a deal, there was nothing wrong with the product just sold as an opened box, run fast, looks nice from the previous metal color. start up is fast, just had to clean up all the unnecessary software that comes with it but runs really fast for what i need.
Sharing : I got this computer for my wife. So far I have had no problems. Screen looks great. Programs run great in this computer. Only thing I am opposing is about window system and trial versioned softwares which keep soliciting and give warning about risks.

Jan Holland : Overall the Ativ 9 Lite is a budget computer and it should be reviewed as such, keeping in mind that the Plus version of it will run you over $600 more. I am a student and was getting sick of running dmg images of programs I needed on Apples platform. I am more comfortable with Windows and prefer it more overall which is the reason I made the switch to this ultrabook. The Ativ 9 Lite is a solid performer with very good looks. It performs day to day tasks with ease, and it is an okay purchase based on what I require from it. I purchased in white and I am happy with the color, as I am sure black will be an absolute fingerprint magnet. I can easily recommend this laptop for a person looking to use Windows 8 that can put aside some of the bells and whistles (does not have backlit keyboard) for an average price of $749, I would tell them to consider this as the go-to budget ultrabook.
If it had a better Touchpad, I can easily give this a 4 out of 5, but as it stands the touchpad is a major component of a laptop and one so poorly executed certainly deserves a deduction of a full star. If the clicking bothers you as much as it does me though, you do have the option of single finger left click and two finger right click which is a lot nicer to use in my humble opinion. I recommend this ultrabook, but not as sure-heartedly as I would want. It gets a 3 out of 5
Marin : Great keyboard...crisp images...fun and easy touch screen...powerful...lightweight.
Affordable. It does not get better!
I am very happy with my new ATIV.

Cas Walker : My first day working on the NP355E5C and it's not as slow as I feared it would be. It has a low end AMD processor so I was worried it would be annoyingly slow to use. So far I've installed Windows updates and ClassicShell to make Windows 8 usable and performance has been ok.
Devrie K. Paradowski : It is taking us a bit of time to get used to the new Windows format; however, the machine is pretty quick. I'm not a techie, so specifics, i can't give. I got this computer primarily because my daughter loves to create animated videos with Windows Movie Maker while listening to a constant stream of music from Youtube and chatting with friends on Facebook. Works well for that.

MomeRath : This thing goes through high-graphics games and video-editing like a hot knife through butter.
On that note, while playing games,it gets VERY VERY hot. The battery stays cool, but the left side of the computer (I assume where the graphics card is,) gets almost too hot to touch, so I had to invest in a fan-pad.
Other than that I'm completely happy with this computer.
Gregory Merritt : Paid a little more money after receiving this computer. Please be advised that this computer comes with Office 2013 trial version, but it does no come with a Key card, which is not mentioned anywhere on the description's page. If you are wanting Office 2013 after the 30 free trial you will also have to buy the key along with the computer.
David Mustard : Writing this review on it right now. Great shipping, keys are easy to find. Fast, responsive, easy to see from any angle..great viewing angle.

Joon-Sub : My biggest concern for not jumping on to this deal right away was due to the 4GB RAM restriction. I still feel a little upset that Samsung didn't put a 8GB RAM on this machine, but surprisingly it's adequate enough for me. I use Photoshop heavily for all my freelance work. I have CS6 and Photoshop runs perfectly fine for web work. However, the 4GB restriction starts to kick in when you're working with HUGE documents (300ppi) magazines, because the scrub zoom feature becomes disabled. Fortunately, I only do webdesign and do not need to work on huge pictures and publications. However, if you are in the business of such, I would look for another machine.
Kenneth R. Koscicki : This computer is awesome. i have always used 15" screen laptops in the past, then I decided I wanted to check out a MacBook. I loved the size at 13" and screen was perfectly clear, but I ahve learned that I have no patience for thnigs that just don't work when I need them to, for example I couldn't wirelessly print to any of the printers I owed. So along comes this jem. The same screen size, perfectly clear, the lightest laptop I have ever used and a Solid State HDD to boot. I have never used a machine that was so fast. It boots in about 3 seconds, it comes out of hiberantion in about 2 seconds. I am not a fan of Windows 8 by any strech, but I can tolerate it on this. The lighted keyboard is great, the keys are very responsive, movies look good on this and I use it for almost everything.
Fiji Sunrise : The only con can say at this time is with W8. But I am customizing that to my liking and actually like what W8 is under the hood. I would not go back to W7. The track pad does fine navigating it and I also bought a MS BT Sculpt comfort Mouse which is a great BT mouse since you don't need to use a USB port. This only has two USB but I really don't fault Samsung for that. There is absolutely no room for more ports. Remember, all this at the impossible weight of 2.5 lbs.

Kenneth McKenzie "hotjazz2b" : ok yes there are no reviews on this but I took a chance and ordered it, well its fantastic, the color is so nice and it stands out not like others but looks so cool and it does not weight much, it is slim and easy to carry, yep everything works on it like a pro, the windows 8 is so nice give it a chance, get used to it and u will love it, this things quick and boy is it easy to set up and run, the sound if excellent, the pic is so bright and has so much color to it, let me tell you , YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED AT ALL, AND WITH AMAZON RETURN POLICY 30 DAYS, YOU CANT GO WRONG REMEMBER TO KEEP EVERYTHING BOX CORDS AND YOU CAN SEND IT BACK WITH NO PROBLEMS, BUT YOU WONT, ITS SO GREAT I WONT ANOTHER ONE.
Hammad : I purchased, this and it was awesome, really fast, good graphics. I play heavy games on this laptop. And I use it for college, comparable to the MacBooks, but who wants to pay over one thousand dollars. To buy one cheaper go to this link :

moviepal : Samsung has long been a favorite of mine, along with Dell, but the ATIV Book 2 has put Samsung in the lead for good. It boots up in seconds and is ready to do a good days work or play. I did install word (work and my writing require it), but other than that I was working on it within 8 minutes. (I'm slow, LOL)
The screen is amazing and the picture quality is as well. This is one of the best laptops I have ever used and will buy another one when this one gets to old. This is ideal for the anyone who wants a light weight laptop to carry with them!!
Eugene F. McCarthy Jr : I love this unit! I changed from a Dell which I am sick of! This is so much easier to use and Samsung has some of their own features that make it worth every penny. On the down side, it has a feature on the touch pad that you can change screens by sliding your finger from the outside edge. I find this to be a pain as another screen will pop up if I go to far over from the center of the touch pad. the only other thing I would have REALLY liked is a back lit keyboard! I can deal with the touch pad issue but the Non-Backlit keyboard is the only thing that kept me from giving this a 5 star rating.
I would still HIGHLY recommend this unit and the Samsung brand! Outstanding product and quality made! Really worth it!
Daniel Simon : Lightweight, nice keyboard and display is bright and readable. Samsung electronics seem to have good attention to detail and pretty much trouble free.

Hunter : Of course, this laptop is so cheap. Someone want both cheap and strongest laptop. That is impossible. This is a cheap laptop, and you can use it for office works. You can also use it for some basic tasks, play some basic games, surf internet.. If you are Designer, Gamer, Engineer or Architect, you should not choose this laptop. You can find another laptop more expensive and stronger such as:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVFMDOC/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00DVFMDOC&linkCode=as2&tag=best-refer-20
Robby : Great graphics but overall the construction is on the chintzy side. I could live with that but not the OS. Windows 8 is something Microsoft should be ashamed of. It seems to assume you are 15 years old and a complete idiot. Tries to do everything for you the way it thinks it should be done. Terrible OS.
Juan-Jose : This laptop runs great excecpt that the Driver constantly crashes. I did research in an attempt to fix this problem and I found that this type of laptop isn't even designed for windows 8. So that was a bust. If it wasn't for the driver issues I would have loved it. I returned the laptop after one week.

Ryan : I'm a student. I need something to carry around that I won't worry about losing, breaking, or someone stealing. I won't bring my Apple laptop to school due to theft increases lately. On that note, I wanted something for web browsing, typing papers in the library egg chairs and had a keyboard/trackpad combo. I found it.
Lance Haun : My background: I'm a gadget geek but I'm not super devoted to any platform. I do love Google's web products but never used their hardware. My laptop is a 13" MacBook Pro and my desktop is a Mac Mini that runs both OS X and Windows 7 (I spend more time on Win 7 these days). I have an iPad (3rd gen) and Motorola Droid Razr Maxx along with a docking station. My wife has a Win 7 ultrabook, Kindle Fire HD and Razr Maxx, all of which I purchased for her.
Captain Awesome : I'm based in the UK and bought my unit there. However, physically this model is nearly identical to ours (to my knowledge only the keyboard layout and socket you need for charging it differs) and I've been using Chrome OS and previous Chrome hardware for a while, so I thought I'd give my take on this device.
